Hilo Farmers' Market

The farmers here sell a profusion of tropical flowers, high-quality produce, and macadamia nuts. This colorful, open-air market -- the most popular in the state -- opens for business Wednesday and Saturday from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

  • Volcano Farmers Market

Big Island. Local produce, flowers, and food products are on offer every Sunday morning at one of the better farmers' markets on the island. more ›
  • Keauhou Farmers' Market

Big Island. Less obvious than the others in its location 5 mi south of Kailua-Kona, this market is packed most Saturdays (8 AM-noon) for good reason: live music, plus local produce (much of it organic, some of it experimental), honey, goat cheese, meat, seafood, flowers, coffee, macadamia nuts, and more. more ›
  • Brown's Beach House at the Fairmont Orchid Hawai'i

Big Island. This waterfront wonder is well worth the splurge -- the menu is inventive (but not too inventive), and the wine list is excellent. Though you can order steak here, the seafood is really where it's happening. more ›
  • The Coffee Shack

Big Island. The view is stunning, the service is excellent even when it's busy (which is most of the time), and the eggs Benedict and hot Reuben sandwich are the best on the island. Breads and pastries are all homemade, and the coffee is strong and tasty. more ›
  • Kalona Salon & Spa

Big Island. This spa is a great place to get a massage or body treatment for much less than you'd likely pay at the big resorts. The spa offers facials using its own line of products made from island ingredients. www.outrigger.com. more ›
