You could say Eugene Fodor got around. In 1936, the Hungarian published On the Continent, a guidebook about pre-war Europe. During WWII, Fodor immigrated to the United States. After the war, he headed back to Europe, landing in Paris, where he began publishing a series of guidebooks, each one specialized on an individual European country. In 1964, Fodor moved back to America and focused his attentions on the United States.
When Fodor died in 1991 at the age of 85, the series of guidebooks that bore his name included more than 140 destinations worldwide. Today, that number exceeds 300.
